Sorrento is a charming town located in the heart of the Amalfi Coast in Italy, and offers a variety of activities and attractions for visitors. Here are some things to do in Sorrento:
Things to Do in Sorrento
Explore the Historic Center
Sorrento’s old town is filled with narrow streets, quaint shops, and historic churches and buildings. Take a stroll through the town and discover its hidden gems.
Piazza Tasso
This is Sorrento’s main square and a hub of activity. Stop for a coffee or a bite to eat at one of the cafes and watch the world go by. There are cute shops as well. Walk down the stairs to the Sorrento Ferry port. You can find the pastry Sfogliatella in Sorrento as well as in Naples!
Chiostro di San Francesco (The Cloisters)
The Cloisters are an old monastery with a tranquil courtyard. If you walk up to the top floor you will find a hidden rooftop deck with swing overlooking the sea and Mt Vesuvius.
Corso Italiano
Sorrento’s main shopping street is a great place to find unique souvenirs, local crafts and other gifts to take home. You can find everything from food, pharmacies, and clothing stores. The street is lined with orange trees and charming street lights. While on this street be sure to see Duomo di Sorrento with its beautiful bell tower. While here, be sure to try the gelato at Gelateria Primavera.
Take a boat tour of the Bay of Naples
One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Sorrento is by boat tour of the Bay of Naples. From the water, you can see stunning views of the town, Mt Vesuvius, and the surrounding cliffs and beaches. You can chose a variety of tours ranging from short trips around Sorrento to full day excursions to near by islands.
Take a ferry to the nearby islands
Sorrento is a great starting point for exploring the nearby islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida. Take a ferry at Marina Piccola to one of these islands and enjoy a day trip filled with stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, and clear waters. Be sure to see the stunning Blue Grotto if you visit Capri!
Take a day trip to Positano
Drive along the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento to Positano. Make sure you sit on the right side of you automobile or tour bus for the best views on the way! Be sure to stop at view points along the coast to take some great photos and soak in some breath-taking views!!
Visit I Giardini di Cataldo (Lemon Grove)
You have to stop by to see this lemon grove in the middle of town and try a shot of their famous limoncello. Sadly this was temporarily closed but I wanted to see it so badly! Here is the Address: Via Correale, 27, 80067 Sorrento NA, Italy.
Take a stroll along the promenade
Sorrento has a beautiful promenade that runs along the coast, offering panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding hills. Take a leisurely walk and enjoy the view.
See Vallone dei Mulini di Sorrento
It is located right behind Piazza Tasso in the valley. It is an old mill that was used to produce power until in the late 1800s when the government blocked access to the sea causing it to close.
Indulge in a True Farm to Table Dinner Experience
Visit La Cantina del Fattore for a tour of the farm, mozzarella demonstration and a delicious farm to table dining experience. This is located at Via Raffaele di Bosco 286, 80069, Vico Equense, Italy. Its about a 20-35 minute drive from Sorrento, but an experience you wont want to miss. The owner even came out and played the guitar and sang for us while we finishing up our meals.
Taste the local cuisine
Sorrento is known for its delicious cuisine, so make sure to sample some of the local dishes while you’re there. Try the fresh seafood, the famous Limoncello, and the hand-made pasta. Limoncello is famous in Sorrento; it is a lemon-flavored liqueur that is a popular after-dinner drink.
You can find the best quality Limoncello at Limoncello DiCapri. You can even take a tour of their bottling plant. Be sure to try their chocolates and their amazing view from their patio. Make sure to try the traditional and creamy Limoncello!
Ristorante ‘O Parrucchiano La Favorita is situated among lemon trees with twinkling lights and delectable dishes. They invented the cannelloni and I can attest it is delicious. The staff were remarkable and the restaurant was so beautiful! When you are eating you feel like you are in magical garden.
You can find the best pizza in Sorrento among locals and tourists alike at Pizzeria Da Franco. Inn Bufalito is known for their buffalo products; be sure to try the Buffalo Ribeye and buffalo mozzarella. The restaurant with the best views is in Hotel Mediterraneo. Great gelato can be found at In Gelato Primavera.
Sorrento Italy is a beautiful coastal town that offers a wide-range of activities and attractions for visitors. For stunning views to historic landmarks and delicious cuisine, Sorrento has something to offer everyone.
