8 Things To Do While Visiting Positano, Italy-Positively Stunning

Positano is a beautiful coastal town built directly into a steep cliff located on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. It is famous for its stunning scenery, charming buildings, and vibrant atmosphere. Here are 8 things to do while visiting Positano:

Keep in mind if you’re there during the off-season, please verify if shops/restaurants are open before you head out! A lot of establishments are closed or have limited hours during winter.

BEACHES

Explore the beaches: Remember all the steep narrow streets lead there. Positano is home to several stunning beaches, such as Spiaggia Grande (The Large Beach), Fornillo Beach (The Smaller Beach), and Arienzo Beach. Spend a day lounging on the sand, swimming in the clear waters, and soaking up the sun.
While at the Large Beach you can enjoy some cocktails and a meal at Blu or La Scogliera; two establishments on the beach that you can indulge while seeing the beautiful Amalfi Coast!

If you choose to go to the smaller beach, Fornillo Beach you can enjoy a prosecco at De Fernandino while basking in the beauty of the coastline.
The last of the popular beaches in Positano is Arienzo Beach. It is about a 15-20 minute walk from the heart of Positano or you can take a boat there from Spiaggia Grande.

There is a must see spot at Bagni d’Arienzo Beach Club; there are picturesque umbrellas, outside seating and yes! amazing views of the Amalfi Coast. In the winter months, the beaches are virtually empty, but still beautiful to see.

Things to do while visiting Positano

CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA

Visit the Church of Santa Maria Assunta: This beautiful church is located at the heart of Positano and is known for its stunning Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna. Be sure to not miss the Bell Tower, the Chapel of Oratorio di Positano, the lapidary of Positano and the historic crypt. The church is also famous for its stunning majolica-tiled dome.

WALK THE PATH OF THE GODS

Walk the Path of the Gods (Il Sentiero degli Dei): This scenic trail offers breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast and is a must-do for nature lovers and hikers. The trail runs along the cliffs above Positano and is approximately 8 km long.

SHOPPING

Shop for souvenirs: Positano is known for its local handicrafts and artisanal products. Take some time to explore the narrow, winding streets of the town and shop for souvenirs, such as handmade ceramics, leather goods, and jewelry.

SUNSETS & APERTIVOS

Enjoy a sunset aperitivo, or better known to the Americans as happy hour. Have a cocktail, a little snack, watch the sunset and enjoy your time before dinner. Some popular locations to enjoy the sunset with drinks is Aldo’s Cocktail Bar and Seafood Grill (recommend you make reservations), Franco’s Bar (first-come, first-served), and Li Galli Bistro.

DINING

Dine at a local restaurant: Positano is known for its delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Enjoy a meal at one of the many local restaurants and sample dishes made with fresh, local ingredients.

For great views and some of the best food, head to Da Gabrisa for a meal.

If you are searching for a more formal meal, try the Michelin Star restaurant La Sponda; at lunch you can enjoy your meal on the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean or a formal dinner in their elegant dining room.
A more casual lunch can be had at Da Adolfo or Lil Galli Bistro.

A unique restaurant experience can be had at La Tagliata. At La Tagliata, there is no menu; patrons feast on whatever mamma is cooking that night. Indulge in bread, appetizers, caprese, pasta, meat and dessert!
If you’re looking for light bites, check out Casa e Bottega; they even have smoothies.

BOAT TOURS

Take a boat tour: A boat tour is a great way to see the Amalfi Coast from a different perspective. Take a boat to nearby towns, such as Amalfi and Ravello, Capri Island, the Blue Grotto, and Li Galli, or simply enjoy a relaxing day on the water.

COOKING CLASSES

Take a cooking class: Learn how to cook traditional Italian dishes by taking a cooking class in Positano. There are several cooking schools in the town, such as Cooking with Mamma Agata, which offers classes taught by a local family.

Positano is a positively stunning town with beauty all around. During the winter months somethings are closed; be sure to check with each establishment before you go to ensure they are open! You can also visit nearby towns, such as Amalfi and Sorrento. If you drive the Amalfi Coast, be sure to soak in all the views!
